SOE independent board members: opportunities and challenges

On October 13 the BMI Alumni Association held a discussion entitled “Independent board members at state-owned enterprises (SOE) – the creation of added value at SOEs, opportunities and challenges”.

Special guests spoke about the current situation and environment on the boards of SOEs as well as the goals and results of SOE reforms. The discussion focused on identifying the value which SOE independent board members can provide to all stakeholders, and on the related responsibilities, obligations and risks, including legal issues.

Participants found especially valuable the discussion of recent controversial cases related with independent board members at SOEs and of ongoing tenders for positions on SOE boards, with real life examples and experts comments.

Many thanks to BMI Alumni Council member Tadas Karkalas for hosting the event at Danske Bank premises, and to all the guest speakers!
