Collecting of art in Lithuania

Collecting of art in Lithuania is a passion, duty, mission, investment and madness. (“Meno kolekcionavimas Lietuvoje yra aistra, pareiga, misija, investicija ar beprotybė”). That was the question, which Mr. Rolandas Valiunas, a collector of Lithuanian art, answered during a pleasant autumn evening`s discussion with BMI alumni, on November 15.

On the second occasion in our new series of cultural events Mr. Rolandas Valiunas presented collecting history and traditions in Lithuania. Also he spoke about the older and newer generations of collectors in Lithuania and showed the Valiunas Ellex collection, which comprises paintings, sculptures, maps, historical engravings, books and silver works by Lithuanian artists. Finally he shared some really interesting tips about collecting, wonderful personal stories and even advice how to avoid mistakes.

Dr. Simona Makselienė, the director of the auction house Art Market Agency (“Meno rinkos agentūra”), revealed the trends in the art market and happenings in the Lithuanian auction market and presented useful information about setting art work value and price .

The evening was really interesting, educational and pleasant for soul.
