BMI Alumni Association Discussion event on "Cloud+Legal"

"Cloud + Legal“ was the theme of traditional discussion event of BMI Alumni Association, which was held on January 28, 2013. The purpose was to identify the legal risks, discuss existing practices and hidden aspects of cloud computing.

Every day each of us dives into the unlimited spaces of „cloud‘s“ - both as private persons (like when using various social networks) and as business customers when using data centers' services. However, do we really question ourselves when pressing „OK“ button and signing any „license agreement“? Do we understand the risks that are related to the of lack of data security control or regulations control? Which country‘s jurisdiction applies if the data is lost, stolen, miss-used? What are the consequences? How are the marketers spying on internet users? What do they know?

These and many other practical situations were discussed with visiting experts. Representatives of Law Firm SORAINEN Paulius Galubickas and Renata Beržanskienė shared the legal practice of moving entire or partial business services into the clouds. The legal terms were vividly and clearly presented, involving the whole audience into a very lively discussion.

Besides BMI Alumni, some experts, representing IT side of the cloud issue, were invited. Kęstas Liaugminas from Blue Bridge and Arvydas Žvirblis with Vaidas Zlotkus from Santa Monica Networks. Their questions and comments helped to balance legal and technical issues of the cloud computing.

More than 20 participants of this event confirmed that the theme is of great importance to the business decision makers. This discussion has to continue with the new practice emerging, both legal and technological.
